We believe in following children’s interests, through observation, assessment, interaction and listening to children. We provide resources and experiences that interest them, thereby enhancing their learning and development.
What is the Pre-School like?
Although the pre-school is run from a church hall, we are fortunate to be able to use the garden at the rear of the hall. We have had artificial grass laid and a canopy has been built that enables the children to use the outside even when it rains. We are continuously looking to improve the surroundings for the children.
How do we monitor progress?
- We carefully monitor each child’s progress and development from the moment they join our pre-school. We get to know every child as an individual, building a clear picture of their interests, strengths, achievements and next steps.
- Our experienced staff observe children as they play, explore, communicate and learn throughout the day. We use these observations, conversations with children and information from parents to identify what each child knows, understands and can do.
- We regularly reflect on children’s learning across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and use this knowledge to plan meaningful experiences and opportunities that support their individual development.
INCLUSION AND ADDITIONAL NEEDS
We are committed to ensuring that every child feels welcomed, included and able to participate fully in pre-school life. We work very closely with families and other professionals to identify children’s individual needs and provide appropriate support.
Please see our Local Offer for further information and support services.
SAFEGUARDING
The safety and wellbeing of every child are central to our practice. We follow robust safeguarding procedures and work with families and relevant professionals whenever a concern arises.
Our policies include Safeguarding, Settling-In, Attendance & Child Absence, Achieveing Positive Behaviour, Special Educational Needs, Safer Sleep and Screen Time usage.
WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS
- Parents know their children best, so we value the information and insights they share with us. We encourage regular communication with families and use this alongside our observations to build a complete picture of each child’s development.
- We share children’s progress with parents throughout their time at pre-school and provide opportunities to discuss their child’s learning, achievements and any areas where they may need additional support.
SUPPORTING EVERY CHILD TO THRIVE
- We continually review children’s progress to ensure that no child is overlooked. Where we identify that a child may benefit from additional support, we work closely with parents and, where appropriate, relevant professionals to ensure that the right support is put in place.
Our aim is not simply to measure what children can do, but to understand how each child learns and provide the right experiences, encouragement and support to help them flourish.
